Advanced Anime is a online community for fans of the art style from Japan known as Anime. The site is dynamically driven and relies on user-submitted tags to organize site content. The site also makes use of wikis for information about specific Anime series. There is a strong user community that contributes regularly to the site. The Original Problem In 2002, there were no Anime image sites on the Internet that focused exclusively on non-adult images of Anime girls. The First Solution Advanced Anime was created in order to serve this gap. Originally the site was developed with static content, but shortly after the first iteration of the site was completed, a new version was created based on dynamic content utilizing PHP and MySQL. Users were able to post and comment on images at will. As a result, the Advanced Anime community was born. The Second Problem By 2008, Advanced Anime had grown to over 200,000 members with all sorts of Anime images being posted to the site. However, because of the number and diversity of images that were posted each day, organization became an increasing problem. Since images were only allowed one categorization, they were unable to be organized efficiently. To keep image content manageable, all image posts were only kept on the site on a temporary basis. The Current Solution Through 2008 and 2009, Advanced Anime was rebuilt to be driven off of user-posted tags and wikis. Images that used to only be able to belong to a single category could now be found through any combination of tags that were posted to it. Advanced Anime Today Advanced Anime has expanded over the years beyond image posting to include art contests, wikis, videos, forums, and an array of tools for members to express themselves. However, at its core, Advanced Anime is a site that organizes Anime images and information from across the web while providing a strong user interface so that content is intuitively accessible.
